When is Too Far?
I've written before about the difficulty we all face in Making the Decision to let our pets go. As the technology of veterinary medicine grows exponentially, I believe that the biggest challenge in our future as a profession is keeping our heart engaged so that we can help you, the client, make a decision during a difficult time. Making the Decision
The hardest thing that I do as a vet is participate in the decision to put a pet to sleep. My first experience with this professionally was when I volunteered at a local animal shelter in Maryland that saw many homeless pets euthanized. I was 16 years old and I knew that I wanted to be a vet. I didn't know if I could handle the emotional part of the job. Nothing scared me more than euthanasia. Free Lecture Series
I just got back from a 9 day trip to Florida. Don't stop reading now, I haven't gotten to the good part yet. The first 4 days were at a conference in Orlando. NAVC is a huge veterinary conference that I go to every few years along with 10,000 other veterinary professionals to learn what is new. There are lectures, labs, and the air is buzzing with excitement. I signed up for 1/2 day lab on microsurgery and can't wait to practice my skills. We trained on those catnip mice.
