Paws on Parade 2015

For many years now we have put together a team for Paws on Parade.

For those who are new to our email list or area, Paws on Parade is an annual fun-fest put on by the Bangor Humane Society to raise money and awareness for the homeless pets in our area.

The event this year is held on October 3rd at the Bangor Waterfront. Many of you have adopted pets from the Bangor Humane Society….just like me.

That is, I adopted some pets, not that the pets are like me.

🙂

The first year we participated as a team, we started at the Technology Center by Dorthea Dix. I remember quite clearly because one of my dogs got loose from his leash and bounded across the soccer field. I was running behind him, panting (me, not him) and possibly swearing.

You long term team members might remember ….thank God Youtube and smartphones were just getting started then and no footage actually exists.

Of course this year all bets are off. I have much less active dogs now, so I think I could catch them if they got away.

Consider joining our team or making a donation to this make a difference to the homeless pets in the Greater Bangor Area.

I’m hoping our new veterinarian will be present this year. Some of you may have met Dr Chris Barry last year when he did an externship at Kindred Spirits. We liked him so much that I offered him a job and he accepted. He is currently driving across the US from Oklahoma, and we expect him to be starting September 21st. I have met many vets in my life and to make a long story short, he just fit.
The one thing I have learned in 26 years of practice is that good medicine starts with two things….
Compassion

and Good listening skills.

Both those things are natural to some people, cultivated by others, and totally missed by too many practitioners of both veterinary and human medicine.
Dr Barry gets it, and I bet you will love him as much as we do.

From September 21st to October 12th, he will be following us around and meeting everyone. We will be donating some spay and neuter days to Bangor Humane Society  during this time so that we can learn to work as a team with a new member, and he can get used to our idiosyncrasies (like the coconut bikini top I wear when doing surgery)

Dr Pooler will keep her regular schedule and Dr Miller is taking a little break to focus on his  housecall practice as we get accustomed to a new vet. We are hoping he will start back up in the spring.
